This print started with a simple newspaper collage. I used bold display text for the darker areas, and regular text for the lighter areas. The image was then transferred to vellum, and from there transferred to a metal plate. This process created a reusable template that I inked and ran through the press.
I created this composition using four 4×4 inch squares. I decorated the squares with dots of glue and then used them as a template once dry. Each template was run through the printing press four separate times. The prints were then cut out and all sixteen squares were rearranged to create the final composition.
I focused on keeping a gradient throughout the piece. The piece is lighter in the upper right corner, and gradually gets darker as the eye moves to the bottom.
The final composition is 16in x 16in.
